Our patient Kyleigh shares her Marathon training journey

Since my last blog, lots has changed for me personally, and 2021 was not the year I was hoping for.

I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer this time last year, which resulted in me requiring a hysterectomy and missing out on the opportunity to run the London Marathon for my late mum.

But one year on, I feel so extremely lucky, as I am clear of cancer, fit, well and in a good head space. The NHS were fantastic and saved my life, so I will be eternally grateful to them.

With regards to my London Marathon space, I have been fortunate with this too. Brain Research UK have rewarded me with another opportunity with a place in this years London Marathon, which takes place on 2nd October 2022.

So I have just over 2 months remaining to fully focus on this goal of not ‘only’ running 26.2 miles (somehow) but to continue to raise thousands for Brain Research UK and to keep my Mum’s memory alive.

I have also made the decision that any money I can make after hitting the target for Brain Research UK, I will donate to a Cervical Cancer charity, as this will help keep us women safe and alive!!

I feel so determined to complete this marathon, but as I explained in my last blog, this is not going to be easy for me, as I have battled mental health, weight issues and running injuries, but I have a fire in my belly and with the support from all my friends, family and City Way Health Clinic, I feel I have a good chance.

The City Way Health Clinic and my osteopath Tom Fuller have been amazing. Tom supported me last year with via medical treatment, but also personally, taking the time to check how I was after my operation last year.

City Way Health Clinic and Tom are continuing to treat and support me this year, all the way till October, so a huge thank you!!!!

My running is going well and I completed the Whitstable Run (Half Marathon) on Sunday 10th July in heat of high 20 degrees.

I found this unbelievably difficult in the heat, but managed to complete in 2 hours 37 minutes.

So although I have double the distance to run in London, I am hoping that it will be in half the temperature.

Wish me luck J
