Your practitioner has advised you to do the following in order to improve your treatment outcome:

  • Wrap an ice pack in a towel (to protect your skin) and apply to affected area for a maximum of 5 minutes.
  • Immediately replace the ice pack with heat (hot water bottle or warmed gel pack is ideal). Be careful not to burn the skin. Keep the heat on the affected area for 5 minutes.
  • Finally, immediately replace the heat with the ice back again for a further 5 minutes
  • This 15 minute application, alternating between hot and cold, can be repeated up to three times a day.

Following these steps will help reduce pain and inflammation.

Leaving hot or cold on the skin for longer than the above recommendation could be detrimental to recovery and aggravate the injury.

Your practitioner has advised you to check and adjust your pillow height accordingly to improve your treatment outcome.

Please click on this link to see a video of how to set up your correct pillow height.

The material the pillow is made from is your personal preference, however it must be pliable enough to allow you to achieve the correct height of your pillow as this is paramount for having the correct sleeping posture. If you require more than one pillow to achieve the correct height ensure you place them in one pillow case to prevent them moving.
