Our Reflexologists offer this NHS recognised therapy for the feet in order to balance the whole body.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a therapy that treats the feet in order to balance the whole body. Its main principle is that by massaging and applying pressure to parts of the feet known as reflex areas, other corresponding and connected areas of the body will feel the benefit.
Reflexologists do not claim to diagnose or cure and do not prescribe. Reflexology is an individual treatment which works holistically. It encourages the body to function optimally and release any toxins which have increased in the body over time. This then allows the body to repair itself and respond more efficiently to stress or illness.
Is Reflexology Right For Me?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy widely accepted in the UK and recognized by the NHS, many GP’s and hospices. It is totally safe for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly, for pregnant women and those undergoing chemotherapy. Whilst reflexology works very well alongside conventional medicine, it should never be used in place of seeking professional medical advice.
Reflexology can be safely administered throughout pregnancy. Maternity reflexology supports the mother through gentle and relaxing treatments that are designed to help the body accommodate to the many changes that pregnancy brings. It is a safe and non-evasive treatment which does not interfere with normal pregnancy. Some evidence suggests that Reflexology and applying pressure and stimulation to the feet can help with the induction of labour.
Benefits of Reflexology
In order to function, the body needs energy in the form of oxygen and nutrients, which are circulated in the blood. As reflexology improves blood circulation, it thus increases the efficiency of all organs and cells.
- It relieves stress and tension and has a deeply relaxing effect
- It helps release trapped nervous energy and improves neural efficiency; 7000 nerves are stimulated by reflexology massage
- Relieves fatigue and increases energy
- Stimulates repair and creation of new cells
- Promotes refreshing sleep
- Stimulates removal of waste products
- Stimulates muscle action and peristalsis and aids smooth passage of food as it is digested – helps with digestive disorders
- Promotes calmness and a sense of well-being
- Relaxes the body and mind
Reflexology is a great way to experience a holistic therapy if you are nervous or body conscious as it treats from the knee down. A Reflexology treatment lasts 50 minutes and it is generally recommended that you try to keep up a monthly maintenance plan to encourage long-term benefits however the frequency of treatments is up to you.
