What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and manual treatment, which is recognised by the British Medical Association as a discrete clinical discipline.
Osteopathy is a hands on form of treatment that cares for the health of the whole person. It is a safe, natural and non-invasive treatment tailored to the individual patient. Osteopathic treatment is based on the relationship of the structures and systems of the body and the effect they have on the overall function of the person.
Diagnostic procedures combine scientific knowledge of anatomy and physiology and clinical methods of investigation, as well as using conventional medical assessment and diagnosis.
Treatment focuses on the musculo-skeletal systems of the body (the bones, viscera, connective tissues, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints etc). However, osteopathy is NOT confined to the study of backs, which is a common misconception - although osteopaths do treat a lot of them!
