Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial Osteopathy is a misleading term in itself. It is a refined and subtle form of ostetopathic treatment that uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the whole body, including the head.
It is not different to Osteopathy, it just recognises the importance of subtle mechanisms at work within the head and their profound influence on the health of the whole body.
Cranial Osteopaths are trained to feel a very subtle, rhythmical shape change that is present in all body tissues. This is called involuntary motion. The skull is made up of 26 bones which are intricately joined in such a way that during the rhythmical cycle of involuntary motion, the skull can actually change shape very slightly to accommodate the normal involuntary motion of the brain inside.
Using very subtle and gentle techniques, the accumulated stresses and strains in the body are gradually released. The aim is to relieve the current symptoms and also improve the underlying health of the tissues as much as possible to help prevent their recurrence.
'Cranial Osteopathy is often used as a safe and drug free method to successfully alleviate many paediatric (Babies & Children) conditions including the inability for the baby to relax. Many of the problems are related to stresses and strains within their bodies which could possibly be attributed to the trauma of birth.
