Cranial osteopathy is a popular and effective form of Osteopathy. It is a gentle osteopathic treatment which concentrates on relieving tension, stress and strains throughout the body.
What is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial techniques are safe, gentle and non-manipulative. Due to its gentle application it is often used when treating people of all ages including new-borns and the elderly and can be practiced on people with a wide range of conditions.
Cranial osteopaths use their skill and expertise to detect and interpret a subtle recurring rhythm that exists in all body tissues. This ‘Cranial Rhythm’ is involuntary – like a pulse, and is present because of the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the spinal cord, and the pull of the soft tissue connections to the cranial bones. Disruption in this natural cranial rhythm can be detected by Osteopaths who are highly trained and can diagnose stresses and tensions within the body.
What can be treated with cranial osteopathy?
Although often associated with babies and children, cranial osteopathy can be effective on anyone of any age and applied to any area of dysfunction in the body. Cranial osteopathic treatment is often used by our Osteopaths as just one element of a patient’s treatment and is used in conjunction with the more commonly known manipulative treatments used in Osteopathy.
